Emilia Clarke Confirmed as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis

Last week it was announced that Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) had landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming Terminator reboot (which is apparently still being called Terminator: Genesis). Clarke will play John Connor, future leader of the Resistance, who does make an appearance in this first film despite the fact that he doesn’t appear in James Cameron’s The Terminator. As of last week, however, we still did not have any official word on who might play his mother Sarah Connor. Brie Larson and Emilia Clarke were rumoured to be the top two choices, but now it appears that they have come to a decision: Sarah and John Connor will be played by Emilia and Jason Clarke. Isn’t that cute?
According to Deadline, Emilia Clarke has gotten the nod to play Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis. She and Brie Larson both tested for producers at Skydance, Annapurna and Paramount, and in the end they decided that she was the best fit for the role. Something tells me that working with Alan Taylor on several episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones probably didn’t hurt either.
Clarke’s role as Daenerys Targaryen on the fantasy series is easily the most notable thing she has done to date. Her only other credits include a British movie called Spike Island, Richard Shepherd’sDom Hemingway and a couple of other TV productions. But does she have what it takes to measure up to previous portrayals of Sarah Connor by Linda Hamilton and fellow Game of Thrones star Lena Headey? How do you feel about this casting choice?
