Over the past few years we’ve seen Jon Hamm appear in a handful of films including The Town,Bridesmaids and Clear History, but up until now he has yet to turn his Mad Men fame into a hugely successful movie career. Perhaps that will all change next year with Million Dollar Arm, a Disney sports drama coming to theatres next summer. Hamm is headlining the film, although as you can probably guess, the role doesn’t seem to be nearly as dark or complex as the one he is best known for playing on TV.
Directed by Craig Gillespie (Fright Night, Lars and the Real Girl), the movie is based on the true story of the Million Dollar Arm contest in India. Created by J.B. Bernstein, Barry Bonds’ marketing agent, he set up a reality show to try and recruit talented young cricket players for major league baseball. Although the trailer says it is from the producers of Invincible and Miracle, it looks a little more like Jerry Maguire meets Slumdog Millionaire. Million Dollar Arm co-stars Bill Paxton, Lake Bell, Alan Arkin and Aasif Mandvi and it hits theatres on May 16th, 2014. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
